The single most important thing is to move slowly and keep the subject in the center of the frame the whole time. Everything else builds on that.
What to focus on
- Slow, steady movement. Fast pans or sudden direction changes create motion blur that confuses the reconstruction.
- Good overlap. Each position should share most of the view with the moment before. Think of peeling around an orange, no skipping.
- Even lighting. Soft, diffuse light (cloudy day, shaded area, or a well-lit room) gives the clearest results. Harsh shadows and direct sunlight create artifacts.
- Subject fills the frame. Keep the object roughly the same distance throughout and avoid letting it drift to the edge.
What to avoid
- Shaky handheld movements or running
- Quick pans, zooms, or sudden turns
- Moving people, vehicles, or foliage in the background
- Highly reflective or transparent surfaces (glass, mirrors, wet floors)
No special equipment is needed. A phone on a slow, deliberate walk around the subject is enough for most scenes.
